Alarm Pushes the Right Button

The Skokie Police Department may have found a high-tech answer todomestic violence: the panic button.

Women once had to hope there would be time to call for helpbefore an attacker struck. Now they can push a button and help willbe on the way.

To get a panic button, victims must have a court order ofprotection against the batterer or stalker, and must agree to presscharges if an alarm results in an arrest. Skokie officials say fiveto eight domestic violence victims would qualify at any given time.
